PRIVACY POLICY

1. Who We Are​

2. What This Policy Covers​

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the GospeLib app or website (gospelib.io). It applies to all users of GospeLib, including free users, trial users, and paid subscribers.

3. Information We Collect​

3.1 Information You Provide Directly​

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (stored as a hashed value — we never store your plaintext password). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email address associated with that account.

Payment information: We do not store your credit card or payment information. Payments are processed by Apple (via the App Store), Google (via Google Play), or Stripe. These providers are subject to their own privacy policies.

User-generated content: Notes you write, highlights you create, bookmarks you save, and any content you add to your study journal are stored in association with your account. This content is yours — see Section 7 on your rights.

Support communications: If you contact us for support, we retain the content of those communications.

3.2 Information Collected Automatically​

Usage data: We collect information about how you use the App, including which books and passages you read, how often you use the App, which features you use, and how long your sessions last. This data is used to improve the product and is not sold.

Device information: We collect your device type, operating system version, app version, and a device identifier. This is used for bug reporting and analytics.

Crash reports: If the App crashes, we collect a crash report including the state of the App at the time of the crash. We use Sentry for crash reporting.

Analytics: We use privacy-respecting analytics (PostHog or Mixpanel) to understand aggregate usage patterns. We do not use Google Analytics. Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify you individually.

3.3 Information We Do Not Collect​

  • We do not collect your precise GPS location
  • We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or photos unless you explicitly grant permission for a specific feature (such as uploading a profile photo)
  • We do not collect biometric data
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites
  • We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers — ever

4. How We Use Your Information​

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the service: Sync your annotations, highlights, notes, and bookmarks across your devices
  • Personalize your experience: Remember your reading position, density preferences, and font settings
  • Process payments: Manage your subscription status through Apple, Google, or Stripe
  • Improve the product: Understand which features are used, identify bugs, and prioritize development
  • Send service communications: Transactional emails such as subscription confirmations, receipts, and important account notices (we do not send marketing email without your consent)
  • Send marketing communications: Only with your explicit opt-in; you can unsubscribe at any time
  • Respond to support requests: When you contact us
  • Comply with legal obligations: When required by law

We do not use your personal scripture study data — what you read, highlight, or annotate — for any purpose other than providing and improving the GospeLib service to you.

5. How We Share Your Information​

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited circumstances:

All service providers are contractually required to handle your data in accordance with applicable privacy laws and our instructions.

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority. We will notify you of such requests where legally permitted.

5.3 Business Transfers​

If GospeLib is acquired by or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We may share your information for any other purpose with your explicit consent.

6. Data Retention​

We retain your account and usage data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law (such as financial records).

Crash reports and aggregated analytics data may be retained for up to 2 years.

7. Your Rights and Choices​

7.1 Access and Portability​

You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, including your annotations, highlights, notes, and account information. Email privacy@gospelib.io with the subject line "Data Export Request."

7.2 Correction​

If any information we hold about you is inaccurate, you may correct it directly in the App settings or by contacting us.

7.3 Deletion​

You may delete your account and all associated data from within the App (Settings → Account → Delete Account) or by emailing privacy@gospelib.io. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

7.4 Opt-Out of Marketing Communications​

Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You may also email privacy@gospelib.io to be removed from marketing communications.

7.5 California Residents (CCPA)​

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of the "sale" of personal information. GospeLib does not sell personal information. To exercise your California rights, contact privacy@gospelib.io.

7.6 European Residents (GDPR)​

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, and port your data, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing is our legitimate interest in providing and improving the service, and contract performance (to deliver the subscription you've purchased). Contact privacy@gospelib.io to exercise your GDPR rights.

7.7 Utah Residents​

Utah residents have rights under the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (effective December 31, 2023), including the right to access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of your personal data. Contact privacy@gospelib.io to exercise these rights.

8. Data Security​

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) for all data transmitted to and from our servers
  • Encryption at rest for database storage
  • Password hashing using bcrypt or Argon2 (plaintext passwords are never stored)
  • Access controls limiting which employees can access user data
  • Regular security reviews

No security system is impenetrable. If we become aware of a breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

9. Children's Privacy​

GospeLib is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at privacy@gospelib.io and we will delete that information.

10. Changes to This Policy​

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email (if we have your email address) and by posting a prominent notice in the App. Your continued use of GospeLib after the effective date of a revised policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

TERMS OF SERVICE

1. Agreement to Terms​

By downloading, installing, or using GospeLib, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use GospeLib.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] ("GospeLib," "we," "us," or "our").

2. The Service​

GospeLib provides a scripture study application for Latter-day Saints and others interested in LDS canonical and related texts. GospeLib is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Intellectual Reserve, Inc.

3. Accounts​

3.1 Account Creation​

To use GospeLib, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, complete information and to keep your account information updated.

3.2 Account Security​

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. GospeLib cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage from your failure to maintain this security. Notify us immediately at support@gospelib.io if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

3.3 Age Requirement​

You must be at least 13 years old to use GospeLib. By using the App, you represent that you are at least 13 years old.

4. Subscriptions and Payments​

4.1 Free Tier​

GospeLib offers a free tier that provides access to the GospeLib Reader and core features. The free tier is provided without charge and subject to these Terms.

4.2 Paid Subscriptions​

GospeLib offers paid subscription plans ("Scholar" and "Academic") that provide access to premium features. Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis.

Current pricing:

  • Scholar Monthly: $7.99/month
  • Scholar Annual: $79.99/year
  • Academic Monthly: $14.99/month
  • Academic Annual: $149.99/year

Prices are subject to change. We will provide at least 30 days' notice before changing the price of your current subscription.

4.3 Free Trials​

Paid subscriptions may include a free trial period. At the end of the trial period, your subscription will automatically begin and you will be charged unless you cancel before the trial ends.

4.4 Billing​

If you subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, your subscription is billed and managed by Apple or Google, subject to their terms. If you subscribe through our website, billing is managed by Stripe. All subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled.

4.5 Cancellation​

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access to paid features until then. To cancel:

  • iOS: Go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → GospeLib → Cancel Subscription
  • Android: Go to Google Play → Menu → Subscriptions → GospeLib → Cancel
  • Web: Go to gospelib.io → Account → Manage Subscription

4.6 Refunds​

App Store purchases: Refunds are governed by Apple's refund policy. Request refunds through reportaproblem.apple.com.

Google Play purchases: Refunds are governed by Google's refund policy. Eligible refund requests may be submitted through the Google Play app within the applicable refund window.

Web (Stripe) purchases: We offer refunds on annual subscriptions requested within 14 days of purchase if you have not used the paid features. Monthly subscriptions are not refunded for partial periods. Contact support@gospelib.io to request a refund.

We reserve the right to refuse refund requests that we determine are fraudulent or abusive.

5. Your Content​

5.1 Ownership​

You own the content you create in GospeLib — your notes, annotations, highlights, and journal entries ("Your Content"). These Terms do not transfer ownership of Your Content to GospeLib.

5.2 License to GospeLib​

By creating content in GospeLib, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the GospeLib service to you. We do not use Your Content for any other purpose.

5.3 Backup​

GospeLib syncs your content to our servers. While we make reasonable efforts to maintain the integrity of your data, we recommend maintaining your own backups. GospeLib is not responsible for data loss.

5.4 Prohibited Content​

You agree not to create content in GospeLib that:

  • Violates any applicable law
  • Infringes any intellectual property right
  • Is defamatory, obscene, or harmful
  • Is intended to harass or harm others

6. Acceptable Use​

You agree to use GospeLib only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to GospeLib or its infrastructure
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
  • Use automated tools (scrapers, bots) to extract data from GospeLib
  • Resell or sublicense access to GospeLib
  • Use GospeLib to train AI models without our written permission
  • Interfere with or disrupt the service or servers
  • Impersonate any person or entity

7. Intellectual Property​

7.1 GospeLib's IP​

GospeLib and its content (excluding public domain texts and Your Content) are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. The GospeLib name, logo, and distinctive features are trademarks of [COMPANY LEGAL NAME]. You may not use our trademarks without written permission.

7.2 Public Domain Texts​

GospeLib includes public domain texts including but not limited to the King James Version of the Bible (1611), the Book of Mormon (pre-1923 edition), the Doctrine & Covenants, the Pearl of Great Price, Adam Clarke's Commentary (1810–1826), and translations by R.H. Charles (1913). These texts are in the public domain and are not claimed as GospeLib's intellectual property.

7.3 Third-Party Content​

GospeLib may include licensed content from third-party publishers. Such content is subject to the intellectual property rights of those publishers.

8. Third-Party Services​

GospeLib integrates with third-party services (Apple, Google, Stripe, AI providers). Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms. GospeLib is not responsible for third-party services.

9. Disclaimers​

Scripture and scholarly content: GospeLib provides scripture texts and scholarly resources for study purposes. Nothing in GospeLib constitutes official doctrine or teaching of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. GospeLib is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Church.

AI features: GospeLib's AI-powered features (AI Study Assistant, semantic search) use artificial intelligence and may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading outputs. AI responses are for study assistance only and should not be relied upon as authoritative theological, legal, medical, or any other professional advice. Always verify AI-generated content against primary sources.

Service availability: GospeLib is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

No endorsement: GospeLib does not endorse any particular theological interpretation, denomination, or viewpoint expressed in third-party scholarly content included in the App.

10. Limitation of Liability​

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GOSPELIB AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND LICENSORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

IN NO EVENT WILL GOSPELIB'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO GOSPELIB IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification​

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless GospeLib and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, or costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your use of the service.

12. Dispute Resolution​

12.1 Informal Resolution​

Before filing any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at support@gospelib.io and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will make reasonable efforts to resolve disputes within 30 days.

12.2 Arbitration​

If informal resolution fails, any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of GospeLib will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules, rather than in court (except for small claims court matters). The arbitration will be conducted in [CITY, STATE] or by telephone/video. This arbitration agreement does not apply to claims for injunctive relief related to intellectual property.

12.3 Class Action Waiver​

YOU AND GOSPELIB AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION.

12.4 Governing Law​

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes not subject to arbitration will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Utah County, Utah.

13. Changes to Terms​

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and by posting a notice in the App. If you continue to use GospeLib after the effective date of the revised Terms, you accept the changes. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, stop using GospeLib and cancel your subscription.

14. Termination​

14.1 By You​

You may stop using GospeLib and delete your account at any time.

14.2 By GospeLib​

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or for any other reason at our discretion. We will provide reasonable notice where practicable. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund any prepaid subscription fees on a pro-rata basis.

14.3 Effect of Termination​

Upon termination, your right to use GospeLib ceases. Sections 5.1 (Your Content ownership), 7, 9, 10, 11, and 12 survive termination.

15. General​

Entire Agreement: These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and GospeLib regarding the service, superseding any prior agreements.

Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.

Waiver: Failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision.

Assignment: You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights to any successor entity.
